werk/work/wurk

“enjoy the summer while you can”,
we were warned,
by older relatives
who’d forgotten the relevance of
seriousness to a child,
and the lack thereof.

i’d given up the hope in receiving a call
of congratulations from
my new boss;
unexpectedly,
“we’d like to offer you the place”

the search was over,
but, unbenounced from my mind,
so was my radiance.

days were long
only to become longer

stress increasing,
gaiety diminishing.

rewards mean little
when you don’t sleep
and w(o)rk
seven days a w(eek)
